Key Areas of Contribution

In the framework of the GREEN CITIES project, Zugdidi will create a recreational zone - “Peace Park.” Zugdidi is recognized as a city synonymous with peace. In 2019, the prestigious Bertha von Suttner Prize was established in Zugdidi in honor of the first female Nobel laureate in the field of peace. Notably, Bertha and Arthur von Suttner had a profound connection to Zugdidi and maintained a significant relationship with the Dadiani Family. Holding the Bertha von Suttner Prize carries immense responsibility and serves as a weighty burden, as it reinforces our utmost necessity to peacefully resolve conflicts and coexist harmoniously with Abkhazian and Osian counterparts. This annual award is bestowed upon individuals who have made notable contributions in the realm of peace. To commemorate Bertha von Suttner’s impactful five year tenure in Zugdidi, a thematic concept has been devised, envisioning the creation of a “Peace Park” in the adjacent recreational area, across the road from the State Drama Theater . According to the comprehensive project cost accounting documentation for the Peace Park’s development, the estimated cost for the park’s construction is 271,158 Gel. As part of the project for the creation of the “Peace Park” in Zugdidi, incorporating ecological corridors can enhance the overall design and environmental sustainability of the recreational zone. Planting trees and promoting biodiversity within the park. Green parks and public spaces play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life and well-being of individuals and communities. They provide areas where nature can thrive and biodiversity can be preserved. Serve as habitats for various plant and animal species, promoting ecological balance and supporting the overall health of ecosystems. The space fosters a sense of belonging, inclusivity and community pride, creating a stronger social fabric within neighborhoods. The peace park can be used as educational platforms to raise awareness about environmental issues, sustainability and conversation. It can host educational programs, workshops and events that inform and engage the community in environmental stewardship, fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment. Investing in the development and maintenance of the space is essential for the overall quality of life and the long-term sustainability of urban areas.
