WHAT IS THE GREENCITIES PROJECT?

The BSB 00460 GREENCITIES Project aims to mitigate air, water and soil pollution, restore biodiversity and enhance the quality of urban areas by developing green spaces.

The project addresses the environmental challenges in urbanised and industrialised cities by selecting and transforming underutilised land plots into vibrant green spaces. The project emphasizes the concept of green infrastructure, planning natural and semi-natural areas to deliver ecosystem services and enhance environmental conditions.

WHY THIS PARTNERSHIP STRUCTURE?

The project partnership involves local public authorities responsible for urban planning and development. They collaborate to develop master plans that guide city growth, comply with urban planning regulations, create and maintain green areas, conduct environmental impact assessments, manage waste collection and disposal, and promote sustainability. Transnational cooperation is crucial to achieving the project’s objectives. By sharing knowledge, best practices and experiences among project partners, it enables collaborative efforts in developing green alternatives, promoting sustainable development, and implementing effective strategies to address common challenges. This approach allows for pooling resources and expertise to undertake ambitious initiatives with a greater impact.

WHAT ARE THE KEY OBJECTIVES?

To research, select and design the areas,

Which are close to the most urbanised –industrialised sectors; The project focuses on identifying and selecting suitable areas within urban areas that are highly urbanised or industrialised.

To green, install vegetation and features

For greening and public use; once the areas are identified, the project aims to implement greening interventions by introducing vegetation and features that enhance the urban environment.

To monitor the effects of the investments

On biodiversity, community, air, water and soil; the project teams will measure and evaluate the effects of the investments on various aspects, including biodiversity, community well-being, air quality, and the heat island effect.

To raise awareness of local communities, authorities about

Greening, climate change and environmental protection. The project aims to actively involve local communities, stakeholders and authorities through awareness-raising activities.

Improved Urban Aesthetics and Enhanced Biodiversity:
